Meet Harper
Harper was born the runt of his litter at a slaughter house in northern Jacksonville, FL. In a slaughterhouse setting, runts typically do not make market size therefore are disposed of in incredibly inhumane ways; gas chambers, freezers, buried alive, or even violently murdered by smashing their bodies up against cement floors/walls. Baby Harper was VERY sick, and appeared to have a leg injury... So one of the employees took baby Harper home and tried to nurse him back to health. Realizing this tiny piglet needed more help than they could give, they reached out to EPIC Outreach (an amazing nonprofit farm animal rescue in Jacksonville, FL), who took baby Harper in and raised the money to take him to the Vet for his first surgery at only 5 weeks old! Turns out baby Harper's leg injury was a large abscess in his leg that needed to be surgically drained. Cytology reports showed that Harper tested positive for 4 different bacterial/fungal infections, including staph infection, mange, and coccidiosis-- and needed very extensive medical care.
Love Life Animal Rescue took in baby Harper when he was only ~7 weeks old. Before he was 10 weeks old, baby Harper had two surgeries. He was quarantined to our spare bathroom, and received several rounds of antibiotics, along with daily medicated baths, and manual abscess draining every day for weeks!
Harper now officially has a clean bill of health, is neutered, up to date on all vaccines, dewormed, socialized, and will live out the rest of his life here at Love Life Animal Rescue & Sanctuary.
Sponsor Harper to help underwrite the cost of his daily feed, hay, supplements, medications and continuing veterinary care.
