Meet Tink
Tink is just 1 of the 20 pigs that we rescued from "Free To Good Home" on craiglist right before Christmas, December 2021. Tink is a 5+ year old female Pot Belly Pig Mix, and is strong bonded to her daughter Amy.
Both girls are now spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, socialized and looking for their forever homes together!
Doris is a ~8 year old Pot Belly Pig Mix that we rescued from one of the worst abuse/neglect pig cases that we have ever seen! Her and her bonded sister Tink were living in swamp-like conditions, when their previous owner openly posted on a livestock facebook forum threatening to "kill and dump them elsewhere" if somebody did not come to pick them up immediately. 2 days after the ruins of Hurricane Ian, our volunteer transporters traveled to the west coast of Florida to help pick up displaced animals in need of rescue after the storm. When the transporters arrived, the previous owners were zapping these two large, starved yet still morbidly obese pigs with cattle prods to try to load them into the trailer. Both girls were suffering from fat blindness and could not see. Their hooves were so far overgrown that their toes were twisted upside down-- which made it excruciatingly painful for them to stand on their own, let alone walk! They had both yeast and fungal infections over 75%+ of their bodies, and bugs living in their eyes, face and ears. Both girls were SO aggressive and fearful of humans that we could not even get close to them without bite gloves or sorting boards because they would actively lunge, bite and bark.
Days after arriving to our sanctuary, Doris was diagnosed with end-stage Mammory Cancer; she has a tumor in her belly the size of a football.. and our Veterinarian team gave her ~6 months to live. It took us 2-3+ hours to give her the spa treatment of a lifetime; hoof trim, dental, medicated bath, ear cleaning, etc.
After months and months of actively showing them love and compassion, Doris and Tink finally warmed up to us. These once dangerous pigs, now sing up happy songs to say good morning; their tails are almost almost wagging, and they even welcome head scratches and belly rubs.
Every day with Doris now is a gift. We don't know how long she has left here on this earth with us. Her cancer has now spread to her bones, and she is showing signs of neurological decline.
Sponsor Tink today to help underwrite the cost of her monthly feed, hay, supplements, medications, and veterinary care!
